Praia do Pinhao
Location: undefined, western Algarve
A hidden gem steps from Lagos town. This small beach sits in a sheltered cove between two cliffs, offering calm waters and far fewer people than its famous neighbor Dona Ana.
Praia do Pinhão is a hidden gem tucked at the base of the dramatic Ponta da Piedade cliffs, offering an escape from the tourist crowds that flock to nearby Dona Ana. This small beach is actually divided into two sections separated by a cliff but connected by a tunnel, creating an intimate atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busier Lagos beaches.
The tall orange cliffs create a naturally sheltered cove with calm, crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Unlike the more commercialized beaches nearby, Pinhão remains untouched by development—there are no shops, umbrellas, or deck chairs for rent, making it a truly peaceful place to connect with nature.
The beach is popular with locals and families who appreciate the calm waters and natural shade provided by the rock formations. At low tide, you can explore small caves on both sides of the beach, and adventurous visitors can even climb smaller cliffs for diving into the refreshing water. The kayaking here is excellent, with several local organizations offering tours through the nearby sea caves and grottos.
